The RNZAF Black Falcons aerobatic team is delivering a triple treat for the South Island this weekend.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force Black Falcons team is set to give the South Island a triple treat this weekend, with three thrilling aerobatic displays.

On Friday, the team will give a display over the Kaikoura waterfront at 4pm and on Saturday at midday the Black Falcons will appear for the first time at the Wild Foods Festival in Hokitika.

Black Falcons’ team leader Wing Commander Brett Clayton said the team was looking forward to visiting Hokitika for the first time.

“We are happy to have this festival included as part of our display season this year. We hope the public will come out and enjoy the display as much as we enjoy flying it,” Wing Commander Clayton said.

Then, at 2pm on Sunday, the team will deliver its inimitable blend of formation flying, synchronisation and excitement that makes the Black Falcons displays so special.

“The T6-C Texan II is an ideal aircraft for formation aerobatics and a lot of work has gone into designing an entertaining display sequence that shows off the unique capability of the Texan,” Wing Commander Clayton said.

Upcoming Displays

Friday, March 9 — Kaikoura: The best view will be the northern end of Yarmouth Street on the beach side of the Esplanade looking northeast. 4pm (weather permitting).

Saturday, March 10 — Hokitika: The best view for people not at the festival will be the intersection of Weld Lane and Beach Street looking towards the beachfront. Midday (weather permitting).

Sunday, March 11 — Nelson: The best view will be on State Highway 6 opposite the inland tip of Haulashore Island, with the display over the water and oriented to the beach front. 2pm (weather permitting).
