NZDF helps Police check on storm-affected Auckland residents
The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) is helping New Zealand Police and the Ministry of Civil Defence and Emergency Management conduct welfare checks today in areas of Auckland affected by the storm earlier this week.
Thirty-one Royal New Zealand Air Force personnel have teamed up with Police, civil defence staff and civilian volunteers to check on residents in South Head, Kaipara, Parakai and Helensville and provide assistance if required.
Fourteen Defence Force vehicles have also been mobilised to support civil defence authorities.
The storm on Tuesday caused widespread power outages in Auckland and reports today indicate many homes are still without power.
