NZDF extends air support to Papua New Guinea
The New Zealand Defence Force (NZDF) has extended its air support to Papua New Guinea, as relief efforts in the quake-damaged Highlands region continue.
Major General Tim Gall, the Commander Joint Forces New Zealand, said a Royal New Zealand Air Force C-130 Hercules that delivered 10 tonnes of aid on Thursday would continue to help airlift food, water and emergency supplies from the capital Port Moresby to Moro and Mount Hagen in the Highlands until 16 March.
The NZDF has delivered 18 tonnes of relief supplies to those affected by the February 25 earthquake. The supplies, which included 920 tarpaulins, 750 collapsible water containers, 700 family hygiene kits, 300 mother-and-infant kits, 200 shelter tool kits and 120 15-litre water containers, came from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s emergency stores.
Six NZDF air load specialists were also sent to Papua New Guinea this week to help distribute emergency supplies.
