Fit to Fight: Soldiers compete in Torian Pro CrossFit finals
The competition was held over three days and tested them both physically and mentally as they climbed the leader board to make the final heat on day three.
Day one consisted of a “Friday Night Lights” event to wrap up the 2020 CrossFit open. The next two days had four workouts per day, finishing with a final knock out heat in order to crown the champions.
“We worked really well together even though we had never previously trained together. We both understood our own strengths and weaknesses and were able to cash in on these. It was awesome to test not only our individual training but also our teamwork against some of the best,” said PTE Musgrave.
“We really went into it with no expectations so it took away a lot of the stress, and we were able to have heaps of fun together,” said LCPL Brostow.
The competition saw some of the most accomplished CrossFit Games athletes come together for a weekend of fitness including Tia Clair Toomey, three times CrossFit Games champion and Rich Froning Jr., four times CrossFit Games champion as well as Chyna Cho, Tasia Percevecz and Kara Saunders.
“We only qualified 28th but working out alongside athletes of that calibre was an unparalleled training opportunity for any budding CrossFit athlete so we weren’t going to pass it up,” said PTE Musgrave. “Warming up alongside Rich Froning and going head to head with Chyna Cho was a highlight for me. We really surprised ourselves over the weekend, taking three heat wins and making the final. We actually nearly missed it and didn’t have time to warm up because we were relaxing, having thought we were finished!” said LCPL Brostow.
The women placed 8th overall in the Pro Female Pairs division, an excellent result and a great display of the New Zealand Army’s “Fit to Fight” motto on the international stage.
