Army vehicles on the road from Manawatu to Napier
Twenty-seven New Zealand Army Light Armoured Vehicles and about 20 heavy vehicles will be on the road from Linton Military Camp to Napier on Saturday and Sunday on their way to Exercise Talisman Sabre 2019, an international military training exercise in North Queensland.
Talisman Sabre 19 is the largest military exercise hosted by the Australian Defence Force this year. It will involve land, maritime and air support from a number of allied countries, including the United States and New Zealand.
The New Zealand Defence Force contribution is significant — as well as the combat and support vehicles, more than 700 personnel, HMNZS Canterbury, and three NH90 helicopters will be participating in the exercise.
The personnel and assets will be transported to North Queensland on HMNZS Canterbury, the Royal New Zealand Navy’s multi-role sealift vessel, from Napier.
While the helicopters will fly from RNZAF Base Ohakea to Napier, the Army vehicles will travel from Linton in convoys starting at 8am on State Highway 2 and State Highway 50, arriving in Napier from late morning to early afternoon.
