Air Force to showcase at Omaka
This Easter weekend the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) will be on show at the 2019 Omaka Classic Fighters Air Show in Blenheim.
With almost all squadrons represented, the RNZAF will be delivering a top-notch flying display programme as well as several static and ground displays.
Display Director Squadron Leader Jim Rankin said the RNZAF is looking forward to the last air show of the season.
“Taking our aircraft into the public domain and interacting with audiences is something we really enjoy. It’s great to be able to show what our aircraft can do and give people a taste of the Air Force,” he said.
“For many people, attending an air show is the only time they engage with the Air Force and we want to make that a memorable experience.”
There will be aerial displays from the Seasprite helicopter, the T-6C Texan II aircraft and the Kiwi Blue parachute team dropping from a C-130 Hercules. The RNZAF will also be joined by the Royal Australian Air Force with their F/A-18A Hornet.
To complement the action in the air there will be ground displays with the NH90 and A109LUH helicopters, and people can view a variety of RNZAF trades which support the aircraft fleets.
One particular highlight this year will be the RNZAF School to Skies: On the road crew, which provides students with the opportunity to get hands-on experience with aviation engineering and maintenance and learn more about what a career in the RNZAF entails.
“We’re looking forward to a great weekend at Omaka and we are keen to show New Zealanders the face of their Air Force,” said Squadron Leader Rankin.
