Air Force to show its air power in Wanaka
The Royal New Zealand Air Force is taking its air power to the last air show in its display calendar for 2018.
With almost all squadrons represented, the public will be able to get a taste of their Air Force through aerial and static displays during Warbirds over Wanaka from 30 March to 1 April.
“Taking our people and capabilities out into the public domain, where people can experience then up close, is something we love doing as an Air Force,” Air Component Commander Air Commodore Andrew Clark said.
“It’s always a great opportunity to be able to talk to people about the job we do here at home and across the globe,” Air Commodore Clark said. “People are always interested to meet the professionals who operate and support them in the service of New Zealand and to discover our versatility.”
There will be aerial displays from NH90 MUH and SH-2G(I) Seasprite helicopters, Boeing 757–200, C-130H Hercules, and T-6C Texan II aircraft, including the RNZAF Black Falcons aerobatic and Kiwi Blue parachute teams.
Flight Lieutenant Dan Pezaro (Black Falcon 3) is returning to his home town for the event.
Flight Lieutenant Pezaro grew up in Wanaka and attended Mount Aspiring College before joining the RNZAF in 2003. He is currently a flying instructor at Central Flying School and is in his second season with the Black Falcons.
“Representing the RNZAF as a team member of the Black Falcons is a privilege and career highlight. Flying as part of the team over my home town will be particularly special,” he said.
To complement the action in the air there will also be ground displays so the public can get to see the aircraft up close and talk to personnel.
