A Royal New Zealand Air Force NH90 helicopter will be part of the action at Wings over Wairarapa in Masterton this weekend.

The Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) is taking its air power to the biennial Wings over Wairarapa Festival in Masterton this weekend.

The public will get a taste of the RNZAF through aerial and static displays during the popular three-day air event, which starts on Friday.

Weather permitting, there will be a combined NH90 medium utility helicopter and A109 light utility helicopter display with the New Zealand Police and other displays from a SH-2G(I) Seasprite helicopter, a C-130H Hercules, a T-6C Texan II and the Kiwi Blue parachute team.

RNZAF personnel will also be on the ground manning several display stands showcasing trades within the RNZAF.

“We believe that it is important that the New Zealand public gets the opportunity for an up-close and personal engagement with their Air Force,” Air Component Commander Air Commodore Tim Walshe said.

“Public air shows such as the Wings over Wairarapa Festival are a great opportunity to be able to talk to dedicated airmen about the jobs they do here, at home and across the globe, while serving New Zealand.

“People are able to see the aircraft and meet the personnel that are instrumental in delivering aid when needed, providing search and rescue, keeping our borders safe and contributing to New Zealand’s security interests.”
