Air Force Officer Cadets to help Kaikoura community

2 min readNov 23, 2017

The current Initial Officer Training Course (IOTC) will be doing community work helping out at the Kaikoura Memorial Gardens and the RSA Cemetery.

Officer Cadet Briony Curzon said the work they will be doing is important for the region.

“The work benefits us as Officer Cadets as we are able to get an appreciation for how the RNZAF supports communities throughout New Zealand and how we are able to be a “force for good”.

“We chose to go to Kaikoura because the people there have struggled through some trying times this past year since the earthquake.

“In light of the northern SH1 reopening we thought it would be a relief for them to know that we are still here to support them in their challenge of getting their town back to normality,” said OCDT Curzon.

“IOTC 17/02 want to take this opportunity to aid the community of Kaikoura where possible,” said OCDT Curzon.

Exercise Aestimatio is a student-lead exercise as part of the IOTC conducted by Leadership Development Flight (LDF), Command and Recruit Training Squadron, RNZAF Base Woodbourne twice a year.

LDF conducts all Leadership Training for Royal New Zealand Air Force personnel, including all Officer Induction and Intermediate Training and NCO Promotion Courses from Corporal through to Warrant Officer.

The facilities at Woodbourne have been designed and purpose built to support induction, leadership and the majority of RNZAF Trade Training.
